The office of Congressman Marsha Blackburn (TN-07) Congressman Marsha Blackburn is offering internships at her Federal Office in Cool Springs during the winter, spring, summer, and fall semesters. Congressman Blackburn is in her fifth term as a United States Representative. She is a member of the very important Energy and Commerce Committee and is a nationally recognized conservative leader. This is an excellent opportunity for all college students, especially those who are interested in exploring public service, politics, history, communication, public policy, or law. Not only will students have the chance to learn about the legislative process, an internship is a great opportunity to enhance the collegiate resume and gain valuable work experience. In addition to daily office responsibilities, participants in Congressman Blackburn’s internship program also have occasion to assist in planning events and activities, scheduling, and press releases. Students have the chance to incorporate acquired skills and knowledge from their formal education through involvement in real work situations, while gaining first-hand knowledge of the legislative process. There will be an occasional opportunity to interact with the Congressman, when she is working in the local District Office. Hours for this internship are very flexible and staff members will work to accommodate student schedules. Congressman Blackburn and her staff firmly believe that internships are a critical component of the college experience and are willing to help students achieve that experience. In addition to this, most colleges and universities will offer course credits for the time completed in our office. Congressman Blackburn has offices in both Middle Tennessee and West Tennessee. Please contact Steve Allbrooks at steve.allbrooks@mail.house.gov or Rachel Baily at rachel.baily@mail.house.gov for more information.
The office of Congressman Diane Black's internships run throughout the fall, spring or summer semesters for college students. Although all internships in all offices are unpaid, students gain invaluable work experience. The hours are flexible to accommodate students' hectic course schedules, but generally run 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. In Washington, interns' responsibilities will vary. They will be asked to answer phones, run errands, research legislation for the Member and legislative staff, attend hearings and briefings and answer constituent letters on various issues before the House. As a result, interns learn about the legislative process and the many other functions of a congressional office. We want to make the internship in Diane Black’s Office memorable. Interns will be presented with the opportunity to sit in on committee hearings, give Capitol tours, shadow different staffers in the office and have a personal lunch with the Congressman. For more information, please contact Rachel King at rachel.king@mail.house.gov.
