History of TNCR
In April of 2008, then-Vice Chair Jared Anderson of Vanderbilt University was elected Chairman of the organization. At the convention, delegates ratified a new constitution proposed by Chairman Anderson. Under Anderson, the TNCR worked keep Tennessee a “red state” in the 2008 election season by helping the Tennessee Republican Party win a majority in both chambers of congress and cast a national vote for Republican Presidential nominee, John McCain.
In April of 2009, then-Vice Chair Cameron Pruette of Lee University was elected Chairman of the organization. Chairman Pruette’s goals for the TNCR would be to start new chapters, grow existing chapter membership, and improve communication in throughout the TNCR. Cameron severed as Chairman of the TNCR until October 2009, when he stepped down for being unable to effectively strengthen and lead the organization.
This unprecedented situation called for an immediate state wide board meeting to discuss the future of the organization. During the meeting, the state board would elect Tres Wittum of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, then- President of the UTC Chapter and Public Relations Director on the TNCR Executive Committee.
Chairman Wittum would immediately begin reorganize the state federation. Wittum’s direct goal for the TNCR would be to create a more effective networking system between TNCR chapters and with other Republican organizations and elected officials through out the state, so that the TNCR may be ready for and enormously impact the 2010 election season.
